Commencing on the Winter Solstice, Friday 21 June, Savour the Unexpected is a winter festival held in the picturesque Southern Highlands of New South Wales. A series of curated events at fascinating venues and locations invite guests to participate in an immersive arts & cultural and food & wine experience. Embrace the synergy of artists and musicians and chefs and winemakers collaborating to create unique and memorable experiences.

A new Winter Festival with extraordinary experiences at unique venues and locations across the Southern Highlands, weaving arts & culture, food & wine together with an element of surprise.

To kick off the Festival, we invite you to frock-up for a flamboyant cocktail party held at one of the Highlands’ hidden gems. Join us and bring your friends to celebrate the Winter Solstice with an evening of indulgence: mouth-watering food by celebrated local chef Alex Watts, luscious cocktails by local distillery SoHi, and surprise live performances throughout the evening.

A real feast for all the senses set in the ambient ruins of the historic Joadja township, with yabbies, river trout and delicious local produce creatively curated by local chef Brigid Kennedy. Don’t miss the spectacle of the Burning Man, a highlight of MIDWINTER at Ngununggula. A family-friendly event sure to ignite excitement and delight with live music and fabulous local food and beverage from some of the Southern Highland’s best: Eschalot, Alex Watts, SoHi distillery, Southern Highlands Brewery and Hearth by Moonacres, to name a few! Kids can unleash their creativity making masks or flower crowns and having their faces painted, be part of the magical monster parade and let their imagination run wild!

Embark on a whimsical journey through the enchanting vineyards of Tractorless in Berirma and be swept off your feet by a six-stop adventure like no other! Savour divine wines from Tractorless Vineyard at each stop point and share in the winemaking wizardry of Jeff Aston who will unravel the tale behind each decadent drop! Local chef Stefano Marvello will go all out to tantalise your taste buds with a tasting menu crafted to complement each wine.

Local artists will sprinkle their creative magic at each station with wonders that take inspiration from what’s on the menu, making this a well harmonised symphony for your senses and soul that will leave you spellbound!

Pack the picnic blanket, grab a glass of sparkling, and settle in for an afternoon of Puccini arias amid the rare beauty of Red Cow Farm and gardens. Renowned as one of the best in the World, Red Cow Farm is a spectacular cool climate garden set on 2.5hectares in the picturesque rural village of Sutton Forest.

Before the concert, wander through the gardens and be enchanted and surprised by the wonders of a walled sanctuary, exuberant cottage garden, monastery garden, beech walk, lake, bog garden, orchard, kitchen garden, abbess’s garden and abundant collection of rare and unusual perennials, woodland, old world roses and clematis. Then pick up your gourmet picnic hamper prepared by chef Richard Robinson from Graze at 16 Stables, settle back and lose yourself in the music.
